Another religious terrorist attack occured this week in West Bank from Jewish extremists:

Suspected Jewish assailants set fire to a West Bank home on Friday and burned a sleeping Palestinian toddler to death in an attack that drew Palestinian rage and widespread Israeli condemnation. The attack, which threatens to set off another violent escalation, shines a light on the growing lawlessness of extremist Jewish settlers that Israel is either unable or unwilling to contain.

Ali Saad Dawabsha was asleep with the rest of his family when masked individuals targeted the house with graffiti before throwing two firebombs into the home at 4am on Friday morning.

The attackers allegedly daubed the walls of the two homes in Kafr Duma with a “Price tag” slogan – as used by Israeli extremists in the past – which was quickly shared on social media.They also reportedly sprayed “revenge” and “long live the Messiah” on the walls in Hebrew, according to Haaretz.

The extremist attacks, which most recently struck a famous church in northern Israel, have rarely caused fatal injuries, which made Friday’s incident, in which 18-month-old Ali Dawabsheh was killed and his parents and 4-year-old brother critically wounded, all the more worrying.

The extremists have for years staged attacks against Palestinian property, as well as mosques, churches, dovish Israeli groups and even Israeli military bases. The attacks, known as “price tags” because they exact a price for Israeli steps seen as favorable to the Palestinians, have stirred fear in Palestinians and frustration among critics who say Israel has not done enough to quell the assaults.

Friday’s deadly attack comes as part of a larger trend of Jewish radicalization — one day after an anti-gay ultra-Orthodox extremist stabbed revelers at Jerusalem’s Gay Pride Parade and two days after Israeli authorities indicted two young Jewish activists for an arson attack on a famous Holy Land church. All have been strongly condemned across the Israeli political spectrum, though the recent spate of attacks has raised fears that a radicalized and violent ultraconservative fringe is growing from within the country’s hard-line national-religious camp.

Statement of the World Peace Council about the killing of a Palestinian infant near Nablus/Palestine

The World Peace Council condemns and denounces vehemently the barbaric killing of an palestinian infant and the heavy injury of three more family members in the village of Douma,near the Palestinian city of Nablus. This murderous action by Israeli settlers to put on fire a family home shows once more the serious situation caused by the ongoing occupation of the Palestinian territories and takes place in the framework of the escalation of the policy of the Israeli occupation regime which is feeding such horrible actions. The daily harrasments, attacks, house demolitions and apartheid measures against the Palestinian people are going on since decades. The Israeli settlements in the West Bank, the siege of the Palestinian gaza strip, the judaization of Jerusalem are part of the bigger project of the Israeli regime, which are causing severe problems in the daily life of the Palestinian people. This recent barbaric and inhuman action provokes the anger of humanity.

It is the hightime to increase and strengthen the solidarity with the Palestinian people, for its just cause to establish an independent state of Palestine in the borders of 4th June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The UN has to recognize this independent state as a full member.

We demand the end of the occupation and the dissolution of the Israeli settlements along with the separation wall in the West Bank. We consider the statement of the Israeli government hypocritical as long as it continues the same occupation policies.

  • In Tel Aviv, around 2,000 people, including an uncle of the dead Palestinian child, participated in a rally on Saturday organised by the Peace Now settlement watchdog group.

    Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on the arson attack in the West Bank

    The Secretary-General strongly condemns today's murder of a Palestinian child in the West Bank and calls for the perpetrators of this terrorist act to be promptly brought to justice. He expresses his deepest condolences to the family of Ali Dawabsha, who were themselves severely injured in the arson attack. Continued failures to effectively address impunity for repeated acts of settler violence have led to another horrific incident involving the death of an innocent life.  This must end.
           
The absence of a political process and Israel's illegal settlement policy, as well as the harsh and unnecessary practice of demolishing Palestinian houses, have given rise to violent extremism on both sides.  This presents a further threat to the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people for statehood as well as to the security of the people of Israel. The Secretary-General urges both sides to take bold steps to return to the path of peace.

The Secretary-General reiterates his call on all parties to ensure that tensions do not escalate further, leading to more loss of life.

    • US condemns ‘vicious’ attack that killed Palestinian baby

    The White House condemned in the strongest possible terms on Friday the ‘vicious’ arson attack that killed an 18-month Palestinian baby. Josh Earnest, the White House spokesman, says the US government welcomes Netanyahu’s orders to Israeli security forces to use all means possible to apprehend the murderers. Earnest calls for all sides to maintain calm in the wake of the attack.

    The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) confirmed the attack, with Brigader-General Moti Almoz telling the Jerusalem Post he does “not remember an incident this severe in recent years.”

    Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the “terrible criminal act,” telling the newspaper: “This is a terror attack. Israel deals harshly with terrorism, no matter who the perpetrators are”.

    However, the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) tweeted on Friday morning that the attack was the “direct consequence of decades of impunity given by the Israeli government to settler terrorism”.

    IDF spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner labelled the attack “nothing short of a barbaric act of terrorism”.

    He confirmed that an investigation to discover the perpetrators and bring them to justice was on-going as soldiers are patrol the area. Two infantry brigades have reportedly stopped training exercises and returned to their bases.

    Des échauffourées entre Palestiniens et armée et colons israéliens ont à nouveau secoué la Cisjordanie occupée samedi 1er août, au lendemain d’une journée meurtrière marquée par la mort de trois jeunes Palestiniens, dont un bébé brûlé vif par des extrémistes juifs.

    Les funérailles d’une des trois victimes, Laith Khaldi, 16 ans, touché mortellement par une balle de l’armée israélienne, ont dégénéré samedi après-midi. Des dizaines de jeunes du camp de Jalazoun, en bordure de Ramallah, ont jeté des pierres sur des soldats qui répliquaient à coups de grenades lacrymogènes et assourdissantes et de tirs de balles de caoutchouc. Le calme était cependant revenu à Jérusalem, écrasée sous un soleil de plomb, après une nuit émaillée de heurts qui ont fait une dizaine de blessés palestiniens.

    Ce nouveau cycle de violences a débuté vendredi à l’aube, lorsque des hommes masqués ont lancé des cocktails Molotov par la fenêtre de la maison de la famille Dawabshah, dans un village palestinien du nord de la Cisjordanie occupée. Ali, 18 mois, est mort brûlé vif. Ses deux parents, Saad et Riham, et son frère, Ahmed, quatre ans, sont entre la vie et la mort. Saad Dawabshah, brûlé au troisième degré sur 90 % du corps, est dans « un état critique », a indiqué l’hôpital israélien de Beer-Sheva. Son épouse et son fils sont « dans un état très grave et leurs vies sont en danger », selon l’hôpital Tel Hashomer de Tel-Aviv.

    Cette attaque, menée par des « terroristes juifs », selon les mots, d’une rare dureté, des autorités israéliennes, est la dernière d’une longue liste de violences de l’extrême droite israélienne et des colons. Mercredi, Israël détruisait deux maisons en construction dans la colonie de Beit El, près de Ramallah – mais annonçait en construire « immédiatement » 300 autres. Deux jours plus tard, la maison des Dawabshah était attaquée et les assaillants recouvraient les murs d’une étoile de David et de slogans évoquant la « vengeance » et le « prix à payer », le label utilisé par ces activistes.
